Schmickler is a composer whose work includes electronic compositions, live computer music, sound installations, instrumental composition and improvisation. Most of his works are created for multi-channel sound projection. Recurring interests include synthetic sound, algorithmic systems, spatial texture and sonification. He also writes on topics related to these subjects.

Schmickler's music synthesizes in an original way the German tradition of early electronic music with forward-looking interests in algorithmic techniques, harmonic colors and microtonal tuning, both from French spectralism and from part of American experimentalism, Club-culture and Noise. The result is an explorative, uncompromising music that is sensually attractive at the same time. His music appeals to unusually different audiences, from specialized avant-gardists for their microtonal investigations to casual listeners for their generous forms and their impressive listening experience.

Born 1968 in Cologne, composer, improviser, producer. Composition studies with Johannes Fritsch and Hans-Ulrich Humpert, musicology studies in Cologne, theatre studies in London. Scholar in the field of electronic music, sonification and live-electronics, study of the psychoacoustic properties of sound and the harmonization of scientific content. He has been working as a composer and sound researcher for 30 years. Co-founder of the label and record shop A-Musik in Cologne. Participation in about 170 recordings.
